COOPER'S SEARCH FOR HOME

Cooper is seeking a very active, very dog experienced home. Returned twice, Cooper is being extremely patient in awaiting his forever match - someone who understands and accepts him. Cooper wants to please and knows how to love his trusted companion. His future home will allow him to enjoy LOTS of fetch, walks, runs and exercise. He is best in a home that can respect his spacial boundaries and honor him with structure, athletic adventures and consistent companionship (no small kids). ADOPT COOPER!

HUCK'S STORY

DONATE TOWARD HUCK'S CARE
UPDATE: Huck is already gaining weight, has a wonderful appetite, and is showing signs of comfort and joy with us. He's been caught suckling on his blankies! He is so sweet and gentle, and we are still seeking a foster for him!!

STORY: Huck was almost euthanized before the Foundation stepped in, seeing a severely neglected 13-year-old Labrador who was still very much alert, mobile and nothing short of sweet. Upon initial examining, doctors at Animal Wellness Centers discovered Huck has advanced ear and skin infections - extremely inflamed skin from untreated mange mites and chronic arthritis.

We will continue running tests and treating his conditions. Despite the pain Huck is enduring, he is still happy to walk, to be bathed and to be touched lovingly touched.

PIA'S STORY

UPDATE: Currently, in her new foster home Pia (in photo, on the right) has has learned "sit" and "stay" (never knowing commands before), has made dog friends (was dog defensive) and enjoys sunshine and fetch on a large secure yard. She has calmed a great deal and is even more loyal and affectionate. Coming leaps and bounds from where she started, this intelligent people pleaser is ready for a home. She has begun formal training to deal with separation anxiety that causes her to search for her beloved person when left alone. Pia needs an experienced and loving owner with a secure home, lots of outdoor access and exercise! ADOPT PIA!

STORY: A South Los Angeles street rescue, Pia was chained by day and free to roam at night - getting impregnated and constantly at risk for injury and illness. She was very skittish in the beginning, knew no commands, and was a flight risk. She had hot spots around hind legs, possibly due to prior abuse. After her rescue, she was spayed and entered a foster home for 4 months which gave her security and love.

Watch Pia's story on Facebook here

Pia showed us right away that she was very intelligent, loyal and seeking a loving companion who is happy to receive and give her affection.

Mabel
DONATE TOWARD MABELS' CARE
UPDATE: Mabel is enjoying all the dogs and volunteers, spending time in the yard and being her spunky self. She has upcoming dental work due which the Foundation will be covering as well as the removal of a mammary mass.

STORY: Mabel was rescued from the South LA shelter with a mouth of missing teeth, a filthy coat and hip arthritis. The Foundation has cleaned this pretty lady up, will be deep cleaning her remaining teeth and giving her all the care and comfort she deserves. She's got a lot of personality and love to give. Adopt Mabel!

Hunter
UPDATE: Hunter was cleared for his neuter and surgery went great. His hair is filling in so much, he will soon be a furry boy! He is seeking an experienced owner to be his loyal companion, no small kids. Hunter loves to fetch, run and play in our yard. He is doggie friendly with most, and becomes a very loyal companion to those who give him constant care and love. Adopt Hunter!

STORY: Two-year-old Hunter had an advanced case of mange, known as Demodectic Mange — overgrowth of mites usually diagnosed in young dogs without fully functioning or compromised immune systems. It is not contagious. He was likely living in a stressful situation with very little care before the Foundation rescued him.

Hunter immediately began treatment. Understandably, he was uncomfortable and irritable with severely inflamed, dry and wounded skin. Slowly, Hunter began to relax and the treatment is helping improve his skin dramatically.

Animal Wellness Foundation.org is helping animals through veterinary care, rescue and adoptions. You can help by volunteering and by becoming a sustaining donor.

The Animal Wellness Foundation (Foundation) is a Los Angeles-based private charitable organization with a mission of helping animals by making veterinary care available to everyone with a pet, regardless of economic ability. We organize rescue efforts and medical services for dogs and cats in need and help homeless pets find a loving caregiver. We are advocates for getting veterinarians to the front lines of the animal welfare movement; promoting responsible pet ownership; and vaccinating animals against infectious diseases such as distemper. We also support policies that prevent animal cruelty and that alleviate suffering. We believe helping animals helps us all.
